خادمة الغرف مولي تعيش وحيدة في هذا العالم. هي ليست أكثر من نكرة. لقد اعتادت ألا تكون مرئية في عملها في فندق ريجنسي غراند وهي ترتب الوسائد وتزيل أوساخ النزلاء العابرين وما يتركونه من غبار وأسرار. ليست إلا خادمة؛ فلماذا ينتبه إليها الناس؟ لكن مولي تجد الأضواء مسلطة عليها بعد اكتشافها نزيلًا مهمًا، السيد بلاك، ميتًا في فراشه. ليس هذا مما يسهل تنظيفه!

أنا خادمتك. أعرف أسرارك. وأعرف ما تتركه خلفك من أوساخ. لكن، ما الذي تعرفه عني؟

"قلعة الأحرار": لم تكن كالقلاع شاهقة البناء فقد شيدت في تقشف شديد لا يدل على ذوق معماري رفيع فجاءت عبارة عن بناءات مستطيلة متوازية من غير أي تزويق أو بهرجة وزخرف. كانت قلعة منعزلة في الخلاء كالقلاع المعروفة، بيد أنها لا تشرف على شيء ولا تحتاط من هجوم محتمل، ولا تواجه أعداء، ولا تخوض معارك ضد غزاة حقيقيين يطمعون فيها.
وعلى الرغم من هذا كله، فإنها قلعة فعلًا. فالقلاع لا تكون قلاعًا إلا بأسرارها وناسها، وخصوصًا بعجز من هم خارجها من معرفة مسالكها ودهاليزها وخفاياها أكثر مما هي بهندستها وشكلها وحجارتها وصلابتها ومناعتها وشموخها.


إنها مثال ناطق عن لعبة توهم وإيهام يصدقها الجميع داخل القلعة وخارجها، فيقتاتون من كذبة فاتنة شيقة وهم يلوكون سرًا غامضًا محيرًا. لذلك سأروي لكم شيئًا من هذا السر وبعضًا من حياة ساكني القلعة وتردداتهم وحيرتهم، وبطولاتهم ونذالتهم، وإخلاصهم وخيانتهم، وحروبهم وهزائهم، وإخفاقاتهم وانتصاراتهم.
إن الدهليز المخيف لا يظل مرعبًا إذا نزلنا إليه واعتدنا ظلمته الحالكة، والشعاب المخوفة لا تظل خطيرة إذا دخلناها وخرجنا منها سالمين.

Lima Shawa celebrates Gazan traditions and cuisine in her new book - A Taste of Gaza.

"Before starting to write about food and traditions of Gaza, my home, I had a mixture of feelings: happiness, nostalgia, and laughter; yet also deep sadness. As I began, memories flooded back: events, family, neighbors, friends, and the wonderful smell of home."

The book opens with the celebrations, feasts and different seasons in Gaza. Lima Shawa shares Palestinian traditions and recipes full of fragrance, flavors and richness from her beloved Gaza.

Unlike previously published books on Palestinian Embroidery, this book is the first to document all the different motifs by origin and names used on the old dresses.

The tradition of embroidery is one of the great art forms of village life in Palestine. From mother to daughter, each generation added new inspirations to the traditional designs. Women would meet on market days, for family celebrations and of course at the pilgrims' meeting places and gain muse from each other.

Margarita Skinner of Switzerland in collaboration with Widad Kawar of Jordan provides us with a glimpse into the history of embroidery, starting with the invention of the needle some 20,000 years ago. Over 200 Palestinian motifs of the period 1850-1950 have been illustrated.
